Optics for the Antiproton Decelerator at CERN
The former Antiproton Collector (AC) at CERN has been transformed into an Antiproton Decelerator (AD) to supply high quality antiproton beams with a momentum of 100 MeV/c (kinetic energy of 5.3 MeV) [1]. As in AC, antiprotons are injected at 3.57 GeV/c and cooled by stochastic cooling system. To facilitate the deceleration and to prepare a small emittance beam for the experiments, stochastic co...
متن کاملFirst Experience with Control and Operational Models for Vacuum Equipment in the Ad Decelerator
Control and Operational models for Vacuum Equipment have been studied at CERN for several years [1]. A prototype implementation was tried out on ion gauges in LEP followed by a full-scale implementation for all vacuum equipment to be controlled in the newly built AD ring. In order to meet the tight time schedule, the existing hardware and software infrastructure of the PS complex has been used....
متن کاملPhysics with Ultralow-Energy Antiprotons
In this report I will describe the current status of the antiproton decelerator (AD) facility at CERN, and highlight the physics program with ultralow-energy antiproton at this installation. I then will comment on future possibilities provided higher-intensity antiproton beams become available at Fermilab, and review possibilities for initial experiments using direct degrading of high-energy an...
متن کاملThe ALPHA – detector: Module Production and Assembly
ALPHA is one of the experiments situated at CERN’s Antiproton Decelerator (AD). A Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD) is placed to surround the ALPHA atom trap. The main purpose of the SVD is to detect and locate antiproton annihilation events by means of the emitted charged pions. The SVD system is presented with special focus given to the design, fabrication and performance of the modules.
متن کاملSearching for Antiproton Decay at the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator
This paper describes an experimental search for antiproton decay at the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator. The E868 (APEX) experimental setup is described. The APEX data is expected to be sensitive to antiproton decay if the antiproton lifetimes is less than a few times 100 000 years.
